Personalized Lifestyle Medicine Institute (PLMI) Thought Leaders Consortium will take place on October 24-25 at the Hilton Rosemont, 5550 N. River Rd, Chicago, Ill.

“The goal of our conference is to bring together scientists, researchers, clinicians and other medical professionals to inform and debate the future of genomics in health care and personalized cancer therapy,” says Jeffrey S. Bland, PhD, FACN, CNS, founder of PLMI, who is charring the conference. “An ever-growing body of empirical research is demonstrating how specific genes are involved in the development of cancer. With this recognition, personalized medicine is a natural extension.  In the near-term, the goal of earlier assessment – perhaps even prevention – may be realized through the convergence of genomic tools, personal informatics, epigenetic science and a patient-activated wellness economy. This gathering will stimulate interaction among experts in informatics, stem cell biology, genomics, epigenetics and cancer therapeutics.”

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and renowned medical oncologist Siddhartha Mukherjee, MD, will join physicians from Harvard Medical School, Northwestern University and Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) to discuss the emergence of personalized medicine in oncology. Dr. Mukherjee, assistant professor of medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and author of The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer will speak about “Cancer Therapies: The Past, Present and Future.” Maurie Markman, MD, President, CTCA® Medicine & Science, will discuss “Personalized Care in the Age of ‘Omics.'” Dennis A. Ausiello, MD, Harvard Medical School, will address “Quantitative Human Phenotyping: Opportunities for Convergent Science in the Novel Measurement of Health and Disease” with a discussion about the need to collect data and move care from “episodic and reactive, to continuous and proactive.”

Other presenters include: Richard Burt, MD, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine; Nathan Price, PhD, Institute for Systems Biology; and Stacie J. Stephenson, DC, CNS, Chairman of Functional Medicine, CTCA.
