This year Publix will donate to Feeding America Network more than three times what they’ve donated in any previous year. While continuing to support the basic needs in their surround communities, the $5 million Publix has decided to donate, will go towards transportation and program needs of the food banks and agencies.
“The statistics are alarming especially as it pertains to our children,” said Carol Jenkins Barnett, president of Publix Super Markets Charities. There are 15.3 million children living in food homes unable to consistently provide nutritious food. Back to school is a time where people have to face to the painful reality that this is the situation they are living in.
“Hunger is an issue that affects every community in our country. We are thankful to Publix Charities for its generous contribution to the Feeding America network, and for its commitment to addressing hunger,” said Matt Knott, President of Feeding America.
“As a food retailer, our single biggest opportunity to give back is in reducing hunger,” said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations.
