Loblaws looks to loyalty program to gain customers

Loblaw is set to test out the first of its click-and-collect services at its Richmond Hill location. The new service will allow for customers to buy groceries online, then drive to the location’s drive-through to pick up their groceries, which will be loaded into their car by staff. The new Richmond Hill drive-through for Loblaw has four car spaces, each with an intercom allowing for customers to buzz in to staff members to bring out the groceries. The date for the launch is yet to be decided.

“We’re excited by the prospect of offering busy customers another option to complete their shopping, saving considerable time in the process,” a Loblaw spokesperson told Canadian Grocer.

Click-and-collect grocery services are popular in the U.K. and France, with grocery chains Tesco, Carrefour, Casino and Leclerc all offering the services. Canadian-based Grocery Gateway offers online shopping and home delivery of groceries. Overwaitea has also launched three click-and-collect locations in British Columbia recently.
